Another view of Eritrea

This Monday, the so called independent media sources' dependency was once again demonstrated. I counted to almost 20 of the internationally most influential media agenices publishing an identical and very brief text claiming "armed mutineers seized the information ministry in Asmara, Eritrea". On Tuesday the same media sources announced that the "calm had returned to Asmara". The identical reporting and very often publishing of the exact same text based on the same sources, mainly based outside the concerned region, proves once again that all media sources are dependent, in this case of each other, and that it's your responsibility as a reader to search for a more nuanced view of the story. It's a fact that news reporting from Eritrea is restricted. Never wipe tears with gloves

Recently a societal issue, of importance in this country as well as in others, has been brought to life after a much too long and unhealthy beauty sleep. Sweden has after 30 years initiated a vivid discussion on how LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) people historically have been treated in this country and the stigma that characterize and influence this group even today. The issue has been (re-)highlighted thanks to Jonas Gardell. The author recently released the first book in the self-perceived trilogy Never Wipe Tears Without Gloves. At the same time the incredibly moving, beautiful and tragic TV-series with the same name based on a script by Gardell was shown on one of the country’s public service channels. Om varandets varande

Något vaknade till inombords. En mild form av förväntan. Som en snödroppe kravlandes genom höstlöv. Ett cykeldäck som pumpas med vårluft. Som något som andas. Bortom sjukpenning och kroppskomplex, måndagsmorgnar i blött regn, realismen, tillbakalutandet, ensamhet, förnöjsamhet och längtan. Ryggsäcken ändrar storlek genom livet. Att få möjlighet att hitta något nytt och annat. Förunderligt. Jag är inte död.
